Security Points to consider this Summer

Here are All Secure Security’s six quick tips to keep your home and garden secure this summer.

1. Can you see it?

Always close doors and windows that you can’t keep an eye on (if you can’t see it, then don’t leave it open). An open door or window is basically giving intruders an open invitation into your home. Another point to consider is that even if you have a good home insurance policy, the insurer might refuse to pay out if there was no actual physical break-in.
During the hotter nights and evenings if you want to leave bedroom windows open think about installing restrictors so that they won’t open wide enough for someone to climb through.

2. Always be aware!

We all enjoy being outside during the warmer weather so just be cautious that If you’re spending a sunny afternoon in the back garden, to be aware for anyone approaching the front of the house monitoring your movements etc.

3. Don’t advertise what you have.

Like a shop window your doors and windows shouldn’t be advertising what’s inside, any valuables you leave on display can be incentive enough for an intruder to break in. Car and house keys need to be kept well away from doors and windows, and expensive electronics should never be left just a smash and grab away.

4. Keep it locked away

Thieves often target gardens and contents within your shed because they tend to contain valuable tools and are relatively insecure. Many of us have left the mower out overnight and I’m sure some of us have woken up to discover the lawnmower has gone? Remember to always put tools and high price gardening equipment securely away, you can even throw a spanner in the works by swapping the screws that secure the hinges and locks with tamper-proof versions.

5. Stop the Post!

If you’re going away for an extra-long holiday or to do some travelling for an extended period, a visible build-up of post on your doormat tells burglars your home is a soft target. Think about giving a key to a friend, relative or neighbour who can collect the post for you and move it inside,
Alternatively you can use the Royal Mail’s Keepsafe service, which holds on to your letters for up to 66 days. Prices start at £14 for 10 days.

6. Lights, Camera… Action

Give would-be intruders the impression you’re still at home by installing timer switches on your lights or, better still, use smart wifi-enabled light bulbs you can control remotely using your smartphone. By having a smart system within your home, you can check your alarm systems / cameras while away, you can also turn on and off lights within the home.

Is it time to invest?

No matter how careful you are intruders are out there and are always on the look out for easy targets, by having a smart security alarm or CCTV system this will lower the chances of a break in significantly.
